Answers, straight up
Everything Tallahassee and Crawfordville parents ask us about pediatric dentistry, braces, Invisalign, insurance, and emergencies — in one place.
Frequently asked questions
At what age should my child first see a dentist?
By age 1, or within six months of the first tooth — per the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry. Early visits build comfort and let us catch issues before they become problems.
At what age should my child see an orthodontist?
The American Association of Orthodontists recommends a first evaluation by age 7. Most children won't need treatment then, but early checks let us time any future treatment perfectly.
What insurance do you accept?
We work with most major dental insurance plans and verify your benefits before your first visit. Call (850) 765-3748 with your plan details and we'll confirm coverage.
What if we don't have dental insurance?
Our membership plans cover cleanings, exams, fluoride, and X-rays starting at $324/year for children and $396/year for teens, plus 20% savings on other treatment.
How much does orthodontic treatment cost?
Braces and Invisalign at SmileWorks typically range from about $3,000 to $7,000 depending on complexity. Consultations are free and include exact pricing with interest-free monthly payment options.
Do you offer sedation for anxious children?
Yes — from mild relaxation options to deeper sedation for complex cases, always with strict safety protocols and full guidance for parents.
Can parents come back during appointments?
Yes, parents are always welcome chairside at SmileWorks.
Do you treat adults?
Our orthodontic services — braces and Invisalign — are for all ages, and adult patients are a growing part of our practice. Pediatric dental services are for infants through teens.
How do I handle a dental emergency after hours?
Call (850) 765-3748 and follow the instructions on our voicemail for after-hours guidance. For a knocked-out permanent tooth, keep it moist (in the socket or milk) and seek care within 30–60 minutes.
Do you see patients from outside Tallahassee?
Yes — families visit from across the Big Bend, including Wakulla, Gadsden, and Jefferson counties, plus south Georgia. Our Crawfordville office serves Wakulla County close to home.
