Why choose an orthodontic specialist
Anyone can offer aligners. An orthodontic specialist is a dentist who went on to complete a multi-year orthodontic residency focused entirely on how teeth move and how jaws grow — and then made that their whole practice. At SmileWorks, every treatment plan is designed and supervised by an orthodontic specialist, not a general dentist doing aligners on the side.
- Orthodontic specialists with more than 10,000 orthodontic patients treated
- Free consultations that include digital records and an orthodontic specialist's exam
- An iTero 3D scan at your consultation — with a preview of the finished smile before treatment begins
- Flexible, interest-free monthly payment plans
- 7:00 AM appointments that beat the school bell

Three orthodontic specialists, one standard of care
Dr. Brion Long, DMD, MS
Dr. Long graduated with honors from Oregon Health and Science University and completed his three-year orthodontic residency at the University of Florida in 2009, where he conducted benchmark mixed-dentition research for Align Technology, the makers of Invisalign. He is currently an adjunct clinical professor at the University of Florida College of Dentistry.
He founded SmileWorks around two convictions: transforming smiles can truly change lives, and technology plus a highly trained, passionate team is what makes exceptional care possible.
Dr. Dan Nguyen, DMD, MS
A Florida native, Dr. Nguyen earned his bachelor's and dental degrees from the University of Florida — graduating #2 in his dental class — then completed UF's three-year orthodontic program. He has practiced as an orthodontic specialist since 2009 and is an active member of the American Association of Orthodontists, American Dental Association, Florida Dental Association, and Florida Association of Orthodontists.
For Dr. Nguyen, the best part of orthodontics is the moment a patient sees their new smile and stands a little taller. He speaks English and Vietnamese.
Dr. Shefali “Sharon” Savarirayan, DMD, MS
Dr. Savarirayan earned her Doctor of Dental Medicine at the University of Pittsburgh School of Dental Medicine and completed her orthodontic residency at Jacksonville University School of Orthodontics, graduating with both a certificate in orthodontics and a Master of Science in Dentistry. Her residency emphasized clinical efficiency across the full range of modern orthodontic care: traditional and clear braces, Invisalign, temporary anchorage devices, and soft tissue laser therapy.
Braces changed how she saw herself as a teenager, and that's why she chose orthodontics — she wants every child who walks into the office to leave a little more confident than when they came in. She speaks Hindi and conversational Spanish.

Questions Tallahassee families ask
Is the orthodontic consultation in Tallahassee really free?
Yes. Your first orthodontic consultation at SmileWorks includes an orthodontic specialist's exam, digital records, and a clear discussion of options, timelines, and flexible payment plans — at no cost and with no obligation.
At what age should a child first see an orthodontist?
The American Association of Orthodontists recommends a first orthodontic evaluation by age 7. Most kids won't need treatment that early, but early checks let us time treatment well and sometimes avoid bigger problems later.
Do you offer braces and Invisalign for adults in Tallahassee?
Yes. Healthy teeth can be moved at any age, and a large share of orthodontic patients today are adults. Options like clear aligners and ceramic braces keep treatment discreet for professionals.
